February 2010
Presented as a part of the program for the Child Protective Team of Hampton (by invitation from Lynette Petite).

April 2010
Presented to over 4,000 soldiers at Fort Eustis. We gave 10 different presentations during the month of April. At one presentation, there were over 950 soldiers in attendance. Our program was the annual training to prevent child abuse for these soldiers. We were invited to give this presentation by Family Advocacy at Fort Eustis. As recognition for our willingness to participate, the base commander presented the Stowes with the “Coin of Excellence”.

Volunteers, Joanne and Brittany Nelson, participated in a fair for the children of the soldiers. They set up a booth to educate why you should never shake a baby. Cupcakes and prizes were provided to those who visited the booth.

April 2010
A second drive was held to benefit CHKD in Norfolk. The total books donated in April were 373. In October 2009, in honor of Jared Patton’s 3rd birthday, a book drive was sponsored by SBS and over 700 books were donated CHKD.

May 2010
Presented to the staff for Fleet Family Support at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk.

June 2010
Presented to the staff and nurses for maxim Healthcare Services in Newport News.

July 2010
Presented to the class of upcoming RNs and their Asst. Director of Nursing at the Medical Careers Institute in Newport News.

HB 411, referred to as “Jared’s Law” was enacted. Due to the efforts of Steve Stowe and Delegate Glenn Oder, there is now an educational web-site about Shaken Baby Syndrome, with literature available.

***Governor Robert McDonnell signed this bill in Richmond, VA on July 29, 2010. The Stowes and their friends and family were in attendance.

July 17, 2010
Steve Stowe was interviewed on-air by Kathy Stewart, WTOP Radio, Washington DC as part of her repot about the new legislation passed, and HB 411. She also wanted Steve to give her details of what Jared Patton’s life was like after being shaken at 6 weeks old.

***Steve Stowe has also started writing a book about Jared’s life and the impact that his presence here had on those who knew him and many who never even got to meet our little hero.
